About This Service

What Lint Removal means at Bethel

Pilling and lint are signs of friction damage to fabric fibres — common on wool, cashmere, fleece, and blended fabrics. It makes clothes look old and worn even when they're not. We use electric fabric shavers and lint rollers to remove pilling and surface lint, restoring a smooth, clean finish to the garment. Best done before or after a regular wash.

How We Do It

Our process — step by step

🔍
Step 1

Fabric Assessment

We check the fabric weight, fibre type, and severity of pilling. Delicate fabrics (cashmere, thin wool) need a lighter shaver setting than thicker fleece.

Step 2

Electric Fabric Shaving

A fabric shaver removes pilling from the surface without cutting the underlying fibres. We work in small sections with consistent pressure — slow and methodical.

🔄
Step 3

Direction Change

We go over each section twice — once in each direction. Pilling doesn't always sit at the same angle, and bidirectional shaving catches what the first pass misses.

🪄
Step 4

Lint Roll & Clear

After shaving, all loosened fibres are removed with a lint roller. This step matters — loose fibres left on the surface re-ball when the garment is worn.

Step 5

Final Visual Check

The garment is held up to light and inspected. Missed areas are re-shaved. We don't return a garment with visible remaining pilling.

Our Standard

Why we do it this way

Every step in our process is shaped by a simple belief: quality that lasts is better than clean that doesn't.

Electric, Not Manual

Manual pilling removal is slow and inconsistent. Electric fabric shavers give a uniform finish that manual methods can't match.

🎯

Light Touch on Delicates

Shaving too aggressively thins the fabric. We adjust pressure and speed for each material — delicate fabrics need a lighter pass.

🔄

Both Passes Matter

One-directional shaving leaves pilling at awkward angles. Two passes, two directions — that's how a consistent finish is achieved.

📋

Honest About Limits

Severe pilling on thin fabric means the fabric is damaged — shaving helps but can't fully restore it. We'll tell you what's achievable before starting.

♻️

Sustainability is part of the standard

We use biodegradable detergents, load-proportional water dosing, energy-efficient machines, and responsible chemical waste management. Being good at laundry and being responsible about how we do it are not in conflict — they're the same thing.

Common Questions

Lint Removal — FAQs

What fabrics does this work on?+
Wool, cashmere, acrylic, fleece, and blended fabrics. Cotton and polyester rarely pill enough to need this, but we can treat them if needed.
Will de-pilling damage my garment?+
Not when done correctly. The shaver removes the pilled fibre tips, not the fabric itself. Aggressive shaving on very thin fabric can thin it — we adjust our technique accordingly.
Can this be combined with a regular wash?+
Yes — we recommend washing first, then de-pilling once dry. Pilling is easier to remove from a clean, dry garment.
How is it priced?+
By garment and severity. A light pass on a single jumper costs less than a heavily pilled coat. WhatsApp us with a photo for an accurate quote.
